There’s a popular saying that defines insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I am a big believer in tenacity. That is, working diligently at a goal until you see results. But what happens when you’re doing what you’ve always done and stop seeing results?

There comes a point in the pursuit of a goal where it’s no longer productive to do things the way you’ve always done them, because...it’s not working anymore.

That’s the point at which you need to change things up. This is true of most things in life, but it’s especially true when it comes to workouts and nutrition.

In the case of workouts, your body can get acclimated to your exercise routine and you’ll eventually stop seeing results.

The problem is that for most of us, we seem to fall in love with certain exercises and routines––it becomes comfortable because of its familiarity.

Human beings typically hate change, but the only thing that’s constant in life is change. If you want to improve your circumstances, you have to get used to embracing change.

But how do you push yourself out of your comfort zone and make a change in your workouts?

Here’s one of the tricks that I use whenever I feel like I’m hitting a dead end and not seeing the results I want.

I call it the "Law of the Challenge."

This law simply states that when you challenge yourself by making a change, only two things can happen; you either succeed...or you succeed.

That wasn’t a typo. Did you expect me to say "succeed or fail?"

Here’s what you need to know. When you challenge yourself and try something new, if you fail... you really haven’t failed, as long as you use that failure to learn what didn’t work, make another change, and try again. (I recently talked about this topic on a video I posted on my personal Instagram if you’re not familiar with it.)

No failure is permanent if you learn from it. When you take this approach, every failure becomes a success. How? because you tried; it didn’t work, and now you have a new opportunity to try something else. That’s a success.

This week, take inventory of what’s working in your exercise and nutrition program and what’s not. Then challenge yourself by making a change.
