This week I had the privilege of welcoming Lewis Page, the winner of the 2019 Lean Body Challenge, to our Houston headquarters. The Lean Body Challenge is a competition that we put on every year, allowing participants to compete against themselves to see how much of a change they can make in their physiques in a 12-week period.

Like many past Lean Body Challenge champions, Lewis had made an amazing transformation in his body, dropping over 40 pounds. But what makes Lewis’s transformation even more special are the circumstances surrounding it.

Lewis shared with us that he had lost his 30-year-old son just 19 months ago. They were best friends, would regularly work out together, and attend major bodybuilding competitions like the Arnold Classic. On Lewis’s arm there is a tattoo that reads "thank God for God" which was a favorite saying of his son, John. Lewis told me that if it hadn’t been for working out, he didn’t know how he would have made it through the last year and a half. The workouts are like therapy for him and today he continues to work out, not just for himself, but in the memory of his son, John.

"I think we are all our own worse critics of ourselves and it is important to remember that this journey in life is not an overnight process. During this challenge, I hardly looked at the scale or the mirror but reflected on how I felt emotionally and physically. Some days I had tons of energy and I used that energy to have explosive workouts while other days I might have only had enough time for a 15 to 20 minute quick workout. Each day was a new challenge and I looked at it that way so that I would encourage myself throughout the day with the motivation I needed to be successful. I also would remind myself that if I didn't eat great one day or have the most amazing workout that it was okay and that I would get back on track the next day.
