Hi ,

Do you ever wonder what you’re going to look like; or the state of health that you’ll be in, say 5 or 10 years from now?

I’m currently reading a book called Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert. At the onset of the book, Gilbert talks about our future selves, the people who we will be in years to come. Will that “future you” thank the “present you” (the person you are today) for the health choices that you are making today?

It gives me pause for thought. We are constantly planning for our future outcomes, whether we choose this, that, or do nothing at all.

Regardless of how and what you act on, there are future consequences. To make things more complicated, there are the “wild cards” of the future; unforeseen events that impact the best-laid plans. We can’t control those.

We may one day look on the past, and chide ourselves, “I wish I had not… (fill in the blank)”; or “I wish I had… (fill in the blank.)”

But one thing is certain. You want to exercise control on those things that you have an impact on, to improve your odds of achieving a positive outcome.

I have been future role-playing of late. I have been imagining myself 5 and 10 years older and picturing the physical condition I would like to be in, along with the state of health I would like to be in.

Working backwards, I am striving to make positive changes and take positive actions today to help me realize my fit and healthy future-self.

This week I would encourage you to try doing the same mental exercise. Imagine yourself 5 and 10 years from now, and what that looks like.

And then make a list of the actions to take today to improve your physical condition and health.

I think you’ll find this exercise provides a healthy call to action and will incentivize you to get motivated to make positive changes today.

Your future self will thank you!

During the lean body challenge, I had several goals that kept me both inspired and motivated along the journey. I wanted to change my daily lifestyle and push myself to the limit. I also wanted to lose 50 pounds of fat, which many people told me could not be done. Their negativity fueled my passion to prove them wrong! I wanted to prove to myself that I could indeed change as long as I kept myself in check and always stayed on track.
I blew my goals out of the water. Not only did I lose 93.4 pounds of fat, over 70 inches overall, and 16.3% body fat, but I instilled a lifestyle that I will keep forever.
