Hi ,

Yesterday I was working out with a good friend of mine at the gym, and I couldn’t help but think of how blessed I felt to not only be able to work out, but to share the experience with others in the gym.

Inevitably we had a few laughs, conversation and in general, good camaraderie.
Which brings me to this... I just read an article about a new study that researchers at the University of Chicago’s Brain Dynamics Laboratory recently conducted. The article was titled "Can a pill cure loneliness?" Intrigued, I read about the study where volunteers agreed to be randomly dosed over eight weeks with either pregnenolone, a hormone naturally produced by the body’s adrenal gland, or a placebo. Two hours after swallowing the assigned tablet, the university’s researchers captured and recorded their brain activity while the participants looked at pictures of emotional faces or neutral scenes.
The preliminary results seem promising.

However, I don’t think anyone really believes that we will ever find a cure for loneliness in a pill. But I do think that there are things that we can do to ward off the lonesome blues.

I am a big believer in working out, as you already know. But working out with others in the gym has the benefit of allowing you to socialize and develop relationships with other trainees. I know that some of the best friendships I’ve ever had were made in the gym.
Add to this the fact that exercising releases endorphins, the brain’s feel feel-good chemicals, and you have a great mix of potential factors for lifting your mood and overcoming loneliness.

This week I’d like to encourage you to go to the gym. Don’t put it off. Get a great workout. And don’t forget to talk it up with others. It will be good for you, and good for others, too!

LEAN BODY TRANSFORMATION OF THE WEEK
Michael Reid lost 36 lbs & 7% Body Fat

"At the beginning of the challenge, I looked like I was pregnant with twins. At the end of the challenge, it looked like I had delivered the twins, but the defining moment I knew my weight loss journey was succeeding occurred near the end of this challenge. I had to take a plane trip and for someone who is obese, flying can at times have its embarrassing moments, such as the dreaded walk down the aisle during boarding where you read the faces of those already seated and know they are thinking, "Please don’t sit next to me" or if stuck sitting in the uncomfortable middle seat, your size causes discomfort for yourself and for those sitting next to you or having to ask for a seat belt extension in order to get buckled in. I am happy to report that I sat comfortably in a middle seat without needing a seat belt extension."
