Hi ,

My oldest son Hunter’s birthday was this week, on May 17th. We had a really nice birthday celebration dinner for him at one of our favorite restaurants. Of course, we all ate too much, which is one reason I don’t like eating out when I’m trying to keep my abs nice and tight, which I am, incidentally because we have an upcoming Florida trip.

Hunter’s two brothers, Blade and Pierce, were there with us to help him celebrate. Family is very important to Robin and I, and we are all very close. As I was watching the boys, and admiring our family, I thought of the old adage "you have to love all of your children equally."

Though my boys each have very different personalities, I love their individual qualities. Although they are different, they are each an important part of our family unit and we share a deep, foundational love that transcends individuality.

Don’t laugh, but I think that our physical bodies can be thought of in a similar way. No, I haven’t gone off the deep end. Here’s what I think...

Each one of your body parts – your arms, your chest, your back, your legs, and so forth - each have distinct and individual qualities. But they are also part of a larger whole, your body.

And when I am asked which body part I like to train the most, or which body part I like to train the least, my answer is always the same: when it comes to training you have to love each of your body parts equally.

To get the best results, you have to be equally excited about training your legs, as you are your arms or your chest. And vice versa. I used legs as the example because there are many people who hate to train their legs, probably because it takes so much energy. But neglecting your legs or any other body part, for that matter, results in an unbalanced physique.

So, when it comes to your training this week, spread the love around. Those muscle groups are all part of YOU. Love them all equally.

LEAN BODY TRANSFORMATION OF THE WEEK

Osvaldo Ortiz lost 10 lbs and 5% Body Fat

"This time around I wanted to create a more sustainable (health & fitness) lifestyle and body. Last year I took a more extreme approach and it proved to be impossible to maintain. Thus, I put the weight back on.
Probably the biggest set back during the Challenge was getting sick with bronchitis during week 8. I was out of the gym for about 2.5 weeks. I had to be patient and let my body recover. It was quite frustrating.
But, I am very happy with my progress. I still attained my goals and I don’t feel deprived of anything. I took a more balanced approach and it has helped me mentally and I know I can better maintain this lifestyle."
