My close friend and photographer Jay Rusovich, recently called me and we were discussing his latest black and white project. (If you haven’t seen it, you need to. Check it out on Instagram.) Jay has been taking pictures of professional athletes and ex-athletes recently and has the opportunity to speak with them candidly during the photo shoots. So Jay tells me that one older athlete was lamenting the fact that he couldn’t develop ‘Labrada abs!’
I was a professional bodybuilder for many years, so perhaps I have the advantage of many hours of training in the gym, but I thought to myself, "anybody
can have great abs if they know how to do it."
You can have great abs. Really. But you have to understand HOW and then be willing to consistently put in the work. But it’s not just training that will get you a great six pack. I’ve spent many years in the gym, and I have witnessed many dedicated trainees mindlessly working their abs with thousands of reps to no avail. Why do many people fail to get this elusive six-pack? Because you can’t out-train a bad diet!
There’s two things that you must do in order to have a great midsection. One of those is to develop the abdominal muscles. The other is to diet enough fat off so that you can actually see them!
It doesn’t sound that complicated right? But, it does require some nutritional planning plus consistent effort. This week we’re going to share 7 principles to help you develop your abs in a very informative article from my friend, fitness expert, Hugo Rivera.
7 EPIC AB PRINCIPLES TO GET YOU SHREDDED
No other muscle is more impressive and speaks more volumes about your fitness level than the ab muscles. Ab muscles in conjunction with a well developed and balanced physique put you in a whole different category when you take your shirt off at the beach. However, this muscle group is one of the most misunderstood ones in terms of how to train it and how to achieve that ripped midsection look.
Have you heard it said that a pound of body fat contains 3500 calories; and that all you have to do is cut 3500 calories out of your diet to lose an extra pound? If so, you’re not alone! But...is it true?

LEAN BODY TRANSFORMATION OF THE WEEK Christopher Coblentz lost 31 lbs & 12.5% Body Fat
"In the last six years I have gained 40 pounds... so I made it my goal this year to get it back off. I also focused on having a body fat percentage of
less than ten percent. I wanted this to be the year that I would finally reach my goal.
Fast forward twelve weeks – I have pushed myself harder than I thought possible. I made training a priority and can count the number of cheat meals on one hand. I set goals for myself and I am proud to say that I have achieved them. Not only have I changed on the outside but I believe it has equally changed me inside. I'm a much better husband, father and happier person. I have developed a passion for health and fitness and enjoy the journey its taking me on. I am excited to share my story with others and hope to help them achieve their fitness goals!"
