I had an acquaintance who once told me that he was going to have a colonoscopy and that his doctor told him that he needed to fast for 24 hours before the procedure. He asked me if he was going to lose some weight by fasting for a day. After all, he was used to eating north of 3000 calories each day.

The general wisdom is that a pound of body fat contains 3500 stored calories, so you would think that this guy would drop almost a pound of fat through his fast, right?
